About Grillin’ for a Cause

Grillin’ for a Cause began in 2006 as part of the Brooks BBQ Cook-Off, when the participating chefs chose to donate the 50/50 raffle proceeds to someone in the community who needed support. What started as a friendly competition has grown into an annual fundraiser that has helped local charities—including CASA, Hospice Support of Fauquier, and Matthew’s Center—as well as individuals in our community facing serious need.

Supporting Alex West

Following a routine breast exam at the end of January, our beautiful goddaughter, Alex West, was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. After a subsequent MRI and biopsy, she received a diagnosis of Stage 4 oligometastatic breast cancer on February 26.

All admission donations and raffle proceeds from this year’s event will go directly to support Alex West and help offset the significant medical costs associated with her treatment.

A Little About Alex

On July 26, 2025—one day before her 30th birthday—Alex’s boyfriend of six years, Tanner Roberts, proposed. She said yes, and they set their wedding date for October 31 of this year. Then, in the middle of planning their wedding, everything changed.

Because Alex’s cancer is aggressive, she and Tanner postponed their wedding so she could focus on treatment. She quickly froze her eggs, began chemotherapy and radiation, and this month will undergo a double mastectomy before continuing her care.

The costs of Alex’s medical care are substantial, and your support can make a meaningful difference. Please come out to Orlean for good food, good company, and a chance to show Alex that she is not alone.

Together, we can help lift some of the burden and surround Alex with the care and encouragement of this community.
